Our chapter actively engages students about the American Revolutionary period through contests. We sponsor annual competitions that encourage students to explore key events, figures, and challenges of the War for American Independence. These contests begin at the chapter level, where winners advance to the State Society. State winners then compete at the national level, where winners are honored at the SAR National Congress each summer.

Contests are open to students in public, private, and home schools, as well as Scouts, Cadets, and members of the Children of the American Revolution.

The topic should focus on an event, personality, or document from the Revolutionary War, with an emphasis on our nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

Create a dynamic and engaging video about a person, battle, document, or event from the American Revolution. Your project can be filmed or animated, and the format is up to you. Think like a filmmaker, journalist, or entertainer—turn your idea into a cable news report, a dramatic movie trailer, a music video, or even a rap battle. Use humor, drama, or special effects to make it stand out. The key is to be creative, think outside the box, and wow the judges with your originality and storytelling skills!

Eagle Scouts must submit a two-page application, a four-generation ancestry chart, and a 500-word essay on a patriotic theme. To be eligible, applicants must be actively registered in a unit and must not turn 19 during the calendar year of the contest.

The American History Teacher Grant recognizes educators who distinguish themselves in teaching the history of the American Revolution. The award winner will receive a professional educational opportunity at a national seminar. An application must be submitted to the local chapter or state society. Teacher candidates interested in entering the local SAR Chapter/State contest must complete the required application and submit a written essay of 500-1000 words describing any extraordinary teaching techniques or innovative projects utilized by the teacher to teach the American Revolution. The applicant should define why they think teaching the American Revolution is important.
